Calving with Daddy

This past weekend the kids and I went up to the ranch in Stuart to spend the day with Heath.  We got there at noon and made some lunch for the guys (Heath and Ryan Kelly).  Grandpa Barlow just built a new cabin for the guys to stay when need be and it is beautiful!  The kids love the room to run and everything is clean and neat.  Compared to prior years of staying in the mouse infested trailer....this was like staying at the Hilton! :) Very good job Gary!
After lunch it was down to business...the four of us loaded into the Explorer and went to check cows. We tagged a few new baby calves and the kids loved it. There eyes are alwasy glued on Daddy or cows. Sydney of course tells her dad how to tag the calves and just basically tells him how to do his job. :) And Trace is just happy as can be that he is with his dad, checking cows, and not strapped down in his seat.
It was late afternoon when I had Heath drop off Trace and I at the cabin so we could take a nap, which by the way NEVER happened.  Sydney and Heath went off to keep checking the cows. They came back about an hour later and oh boy did Sydney have stories. Apparently a cow was trying to charge at Heath since he was attempting to tag the calf.  So Heath grabbed a sorting stick out of the Explorer and this is Sydney's story "Daddy got a sorting stick and wacked her on the head." She is telling me this while pointing at her forehead. "Mom, Daddy had to wack that mean ole cow to show it who is boss.  And Mom, me and my Dad are the boss."  :) Whatever you say Sydney. :)
The kids were so wore out that it was a very quiet car ride home, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
